The Star Dust Casino
Dims its Lights
Sept. 6-06
The Star Dust Hotel will close its
doors two months prior to what was previously projected. The
48 year old hotel and casino will be shutting down on November 1st
in order to make way for a new luxury resort, and there is no
doubt that it will be missed
The Boyd Game Corp. has explained
their position on the premature closure. According to the gaming
corporation, the closure will make up for employee shortages.
Spokesman Rob Stillwell shed further light on the situation, "
Many employees are getting placed in other positions and it's
getting harder and harder to staff".
Without a fully functioning staff the
aging Star Dust Casino is no good to anyone. The corporation does
not expect employees to wait around till the bitter end and
possibly be left without a job at all.
Boyd had gave word last June that they
would simply stop taking any further reservation in November and
remain operational to the end of the year. It seems that this plan
is no longer viable for the casino.
The number of employees has dropped
significantly since the Boyd company announced their plans to tear
down the Star Dust. Over two hundred employees have decided to
leave the company and this has put great stress on the business
who must now re focus their efforts to replacing unsatisfied
employees.
There have been efforts to keep some
of the workers in the Boyd family by relocating them to the other
eleven casino run and operated by the casinos in Las Vegas.
Employees aren't the only problem
posed by the early closure. The company must relocate costumer
with reservations in November to other hotels and casinos on the
strip. This comes with much disappointment from patrons of the
Star Dust who have become enamored with the ageless casinos
history and charm.
