Online Casino Trial
Comes to an End
Sept. 15-06
It would seem
that Peter Dicks is out of the woods when it comes to the extradition supplied
by Louisiana law. Not only was Dicks been able post bail after resigning from his
position as CEO of the online casino company Sportingbet, he was also able to
receive his pass port to return to Great Britain.
This decision
was made by a Queens borough judge in New York City after Dick's was detained
for two days.
Governor George Pataki gave Dicks back his pass port and
withdrew the warrant issued by Louisiana law makers.
Dick's
attorney pointed out that the fact that there was very little any court could go
on. Although issued a warrant for his arrest in Louisiana, Peter had never
committed a crime in the State. Even while considering the statutes against
online casino gaming, there was still no crime that the CEO could possibly be
charge with.
Any
crime that has been committed consideration Louisiana State Law would actually be
committed by citizen who logged on to the online casino site rather than Dicks.
Although the warrant has been retracted concerning Peter's online casino
business dealings, in Louisiana it is still active and the former CEO will have
to face charges in the State no matter how absurd they may be. Peter Dick's has
certainly had his fair share of US due process this week.
The future of
the online casino company is unwavered by the charges and the site is still
active in all parts of the US. It is unlikely that Louisiana law enforcers will
be able to truly ban online casino activity in the State given its accessibility
in every home with private internet access.
