Online Casino Laws are Slow To Move

Sept. 29-06

The arrest of Peter Dicks has caused a great deal of uproar and apprehension in the online casino industry. U.S. policy has repelled many fledging companies for encroaching into any business with the company creating a kind of disconnect between American consumers and online casino operators.

Recently Dicks was absolved of charges brought against him after his arrest in New York City. Although Dicks has little legal worry, he is certainly not financially out of the woods.

Peter has the unfortunate task of finding a new occupation. Due to his arrest dicks resigned as C.E.O. of Sportsbetting.com which has put him in a place of unemployment.

The former online casino mogul could possibly go back to his prior business, but the company may choose not to take him on again because of the negative press that was received due to his arrest and trial last month.

The volatile attitude adopted by the U.S. concerning online gambling has lead to executives of such companies avoiding trips or business arrangement that would cause them to visit the United States.

Although the government wishes to reduce what has been termed "illegal activity", the possibility hurting the burgeoning market created by the medium will be detrimental to the economy in the long run.

Not only will the American economic infrastructure be effected, but so will the global economy, as many of the bases of operation for online casino sites are located in foreign countries.

The Wire Act of 61 is the only bill that law enforcement can use to justify the arrests of the foreign executives when they are on American soil. The Act however, is extremely dated and holds very little clout in a court of law.

A method of stalling seems to be occurring in the U.S. government. The HR4411 bill has been passed by the house of representatives but not by the Senate. The policy seems to be to detain these executives on until the prohibitive law is passed and there is something substantial to charge them for.

Online casino executives will have to continue to dodge legal bullets this month until s definitive solution is derived from the Senate floor.
