Casino License Fraud
in Namibia

A senior employee with the Ministry of
Environment and Tourism, Sackey Namugongo, has been arrested
recently on charges of linking him to fraudulent acts. Namungongo
was well received in the public eye prior to his arrest, because
of his position as a television commentator
Namungongo was arrested after his trip
from Johannesburg in South Africa. He was detained by Namibian
police once he arrived at the airport and also met by the
Anti-Corruption (ACC).
Apparently the former TV announcer was
linked with the illegal production of casino gaming license.
The authorities believe that
Namungongo was not working alone and is rather apart of a group of
criminals who specialize in casino license and gambling fraud in
Africa.
Paulus Noa of the ACC, has stated that
he believes that Namungongo is a part of a network who issue
illegal license to both individuals and companies. The size of the
operation would suggest that it was being accomplish by more than
one individual. It is the ACC hope to procure the evidence to
indict more of the criminals responsible for the unlawful casino
license.
Due to need for Namibian police to
piece together the operation, Namungongo will be detained without
bail so that the maximum amount of evidence may be attained
Namungongo, according to police, made
several copies of the same document that would allow for the issue
of casino gambling in Africa.
Although police are not certain of the
various crimes and types of fraud committed by the group, they due
no that the casino gambling license scam has been going on for
quite some time. The Namibian government will keep Namungongo in
jail as long as possible to extract as much information about the
operation as they can.
