The Betting
Gaming and Lotteries commission is conducting an initiative to
gather information concerning the prevalence of gambling addiction
among Jamaican Americans. The forty billion dollar industry has
doubled over the previous three years and the BGLC wants to make
certain that the casino gaming industry isn't profiting from a
mental disorder that is prevalent in the area.
The study costs
requires a large sum of money to undertake. Four billion us
dollars is what is required to gather an adequate amount of data
to determine the cultural association with the casino gambling
addiction.
Although the
problems experienced in Jamaica as far as casino gaming is
concerned have not been experienced globally, researchers are
making it clear that the problem is still no less valid
The United
States, currently is the only other locality in the world that has
a prevalent casino gambling addiction problem. The reason for this
pathological condition affecting the United States populous maybe
because of the religious and political attitudes associated with
casino gaming.
Prohibitive and
restrictive legislation in the States have given the gambling
industry a taboo feeling which allows individuals who revert to
subversive behavior to have an outlet by which to release.
The casino
industry in other countries that have mad psychological advances
when it comes to the study of disorders, do not necessarily have
the same attitudes. This is not to say that there are not other
countries who share in the US and Jamaica's problem with casino
addiction. However, in many countries because of their
underdeveloped stages, these conditions would go on unidentified.
The BGLC hopes
to identify the issue so that casino gaming facilities in areas
like Kingston may operate above board in a fashion that will allow
for over all communal gain. If Jamaica does in fact have a
gambling addiction issue, a method of preventing and treatment can
be enacted to prevent the repercussions associated with such a
disorder.
