Glasgow Super Casino
Maybe Too Detrimental
Sept. 12-06
One
Scottish Executive is rather apprehensive to name Glasgow as the location of the
super casino planned to be built this year in the UK. The area will have to go
under further scrutiny in order for their to be a ground breaking to put the
casinos completion within the projected time frame.
Full
support of Glasgow bid to be the home of the mega casino has not yet been
reached with the general public, no the would be owners of the facility.
It is
important for both the community and the casino proprietors to feel confident in
their decision as to the location of the gambling site. There is a great deal of
money being poured into this project, and the pros and cons have not yet been
fully considered.
Glasgow's Northwest MP John Robertson is claiming that the Scottish Executive is
becoming completely removed fro the super casino debate. The UK license would
only be provided to one area for such a large project, and it would benefit
Glasgow greatly to receive it. Despite Robertson's protests however, the
Executive does not wish to budge in the matter without allocating the proper
amount of information.
The
published results in the Executive on the communal effects of gambling and
the influence a casino would have on the city of Glasgow and a regional casino
in Scotland, do not necessarily paint a horrible picture when it comes to the
construction of a Scottish Casino.
This
research will be sent to the United Kingdom's Advisory Council to be further
analyzed before a decision is made in reference to the casino license.
The
Executive compares the social and economic trends experienced by other
communities that have had similar additions in their area. The report suggest
that any negative social behavior would not be outweighed by the economic
benefit of the construction of a super casino.
In
fact, in many areas in the US and Australia the research found that problem
gambling had stabilized, where as economic gain increased steadily during each
fiscal year. The implementation of public awareness campaigns and other forms of
social edification concerning gambling addiction, resulted in a viable safety
net for the community in these areas.
The
employment of these programs is causing the executive to shy away from the
construction of the super casino for fear that the government will not
considered giving serious funding to such programs. The Glasgow community
continues to wait on the UK's decision about the license.
