French Online Casinos
Threaten Sports Betting Monopoly
Sept. 18-06
The US is not alone in the trend of
arrests and detainment of off shore online casino operators and
CEOs. It seems that for the first time in a long time we have
something in common with the French.
French authorities have placed
Austrian online casino company heads under arrest. The French
government's motivations however, may differ from that of US law
enforcers.
There is a current struggle in Europe
among competing foreign gambling organizations with
state-sponsored monopolies of betting companies on the internet.
This behavior has caught the attention of European Commissions in
Brussels.
The executives of the online casino
companies called into question by the French government, Manfred
Bodner and Norbert Teufelburger, are expected to appear in
Parisian court on Tuesday of next week. After announcing a
partnership between their respective online casino companies and a
soccer team in the French league, the CEOs were arrested
French police's arrest of the two
operators followed the arrest of British CEO in the Unite States
as a result of ambiguous legislature as it pertains to online
casino sites. All arresting parties claim that the activity is
illegal but because the law was created far before the advent of
the online casino gambling medium.
The French monopoly of sports betting
in their own country has made the partnership between the online
gambling firms and the soccer a bone of contention with French
business man and law makers. More news on the case will be
distributed throughout the week as details of the trial are
released to the public
