Executives Take a Stand
Sept. 27-06
It would seem that
some executives have begun waving the white flag in the U.S.
legislative war against online casino gambling.
English
bookmaker William Hill said that earlier this week he stopped
conducting business with the United States. All bets place from
the U.S. have been ceased due to the ambiguity surrounding the
prohibitive laws that restrict online casino gambling
The Wire Act o
1961 has been given increased popularity among United States Law
makers who wish to deter the general public from conducting
transactions with online casino businesses.
Unfortunately the entire U.S. is not
unified on the issue because of the dated nature of the law and
the fact that it only pertains to betting over phone lines.
William Hill has
taken a proactive strategy to avoid the negative legal attention
being received by the online casino industry. He has put into
place means to prevent American costumers from logging in to these
internet sites.
Currently
Hill's blockade of American costumers online pertains to his
sports betting casino site however, he is attempting to cut off
U.S. from the poker features provided on the gaming site as well
The methods being
utilized to prevent American costumers from participating in
online casino activity on Hill's site does not merely pertain to
the location of the consumer. Hill has reported plans to restrict
the use of U.S. issued credit, so that even when American citizens
are overseas they will not be able to log on to the sites.
The industry will make endeavors within the next month to press
onward despite the negative pressure being implemented by the
United States.
