Rendell Not Rushed into Casino Decision
Governor Rendell does not believe it
is necessary to call a special session in order to make a decision
on Act 71. This is causing a bit of tension between the
Pennsylvania governor and the Senate.
Rendell said he is prepared to work in
a bi-partisan manner to make changes to the act which will appease
both parties. He will not however give up the summer recess in
order to do it. Rendell feels there is nothing that can be done
this month that can not be dome next. Many in the Senate are
moving to make a decision in his absence. Rendell finds the hasty
decisions making completely unnecessary.
The act has influence on the condition
of land based and the prohibition of online casinos. It is up for
reform in the Senate for the month of September, after the summer
recess.
Governor Rendell had already vetoed a
bill which was created to make certain changes to the Act in 2004.
The Clearly he is not is a great hurry to change the law. The
snails pace at which the matter has hit the Senate floor leaves
law makers concerned about the actual fruition of Rendell's
promise to move toward casino reform.
Rendell takes on a "don't rush me"
attitude when it comes to the reform initiative. The online casino
debate will have to face the reformation of Act 71 and the HR4411
bill passed by the house, before the newly created electronic
industry is out of the water. The Political argument for the
casinos has made little headway before. After, the bill has made
it to the house.
Rendell's procrastination concerning
the casino gaming decision could spell a loss of influence on the
kinds of condition permitted to be placed into the reform
initiative. Whatever the case, the Pennsylvania governor will not
soon give up is vacation time.
