Online Games Attracting the Young
A trend is developing among online
casinos to gear their advertising efforts to college students. To
deny the buying power of this demographic would be nothing short
of bad business, but if you take ethics in to consideration
peddling the gambling portals to twenty year olds who are
online to complete a research paper this might not be the best
idea.
The internet presents one of the most
invasive mediums for advertising. Unlike the
television commercial or the newspaper ad which have their
respective places among the primary material being viewed, the
electronic medium provides the opportunity to interrupt the
activity of the browser. This in turns leads to a more active for
of marketing that bombards the consumer with the product.
Online Casinos have followed suit with
this form of advertising and many believe that the main target is
the young adult. It is no mystery why items are peddle to this
form of consumer. After all, the young adult has very little
concept of financial consequence. Most College students are on
loans or scholarship and do not pick up the tab for the item that
they purchase. This of course skews their monetary expenditure. It
is common for 20-25 years to hemorrhage money. The excess is
collected by big name companies who enjoy the profits, most often
leaving the uneducated consumer in debt.
Gambling is what these kids do every
day so when presented with a convenient online method of doing it,
it is more than appealing. Half of the online casino sites work is
done with their mere existence. The graphics on the online
gambling portals include cartoon heads and other schematics which
resemble that of video games. These images certainly don't entice
the baby boomer generation. They are rather, created to attract
the eye of the university aged adult.
Although a possible coincidence, there
is no denying who the animated schemes attract. Many online casino
sites offer even further incentives for playing there games. Sites
which allow the first games for free, or allow the new gambler to
double there money, solicited business from the financially
un-established.
Many of the young patrons who visit
the casino sites say," It doesn't feel like you're playing with
real money". Without the physical dollar exchange it is hard to
comprehend the consequence of losing one of these flashy online
games. One can only hope that adequate measures will be put into
place through regulation, so that many college students will be
prevented from falling through the financial cracks
