Former Online Casino Owner Pleads Not Guilty
David Carruthers, former head of the
online gambling site BetOnSports., has plead not guilty to the
charges brought up against him earlier this year. Carruthers'
alleged actions are at the center of the online casino legal
debate which is set to be rectified in September. His company has
been accused of mail fraud, wire fraud, and racketeering.
David is denying the charges and so
are several of his employees. The issue is that the BetOnSports
company took billion of dollars from online gamblers in the United
States without paying the proper taxes on the money.
On July 19 Carruthers was arrested in
route to Costa Rica where his casino site has its headquarters. It
is not quite clear as to how the defense lawyers are planning on
clearing Carruthers considering the amount of evidence stacked
against the ambitious 48 year old.
Apparently the company BetOnSports.com
has severed all ties with their former head after terminating him
immediately following his arrest. All of this leads to a great
deal of suspicion concerning Carruthers dealings associated with
the online company. After all, if the company felt that Carruthers
was innocent, why would they disassociate themselves with him and
the others charged in the scandal so quickly.
The outcome of this case is not only
important for Carruthers piece of mind, but also for the
reputation and credibility of similar online casino
establishments. Many of the overseas based casino sites will no
doubt be monitoring the case as it unfolds. Carruthers is taking a
large leap pleading not guilty. This court case may be likely to
yield some surprising results
