Online Casino Extortion Threatens Webmasters
Online Casinos are facing increased
pressures from both sides of the law. Off shore internet gambling
distributors are being threatened and in some cases put out by the
shady internet crooks
There have been several "denial of
service" attacks being made on electronic casinos. Hackers are
able to infiltrate the primary server of these sites and
completely undermine their operating system. This kind of behavior
leaves webmasters in a very tricky position. Phantom hackers ask
for money deposits in several bank locations as not to give away
their primary location. The sites are forced to comply if they
wish to continue service.
Extortion on the net is rather
effective considering the integrity of the average off shore
operating system. If a casino site is shut down by an
extortionists the amount it stands to loose waiting to rectify the
problem is greater many times than the price the internet bullies
are asking for.
There is a kind of organized crime
that seems to be running ramped among online casino sites. These
phantom hackers are asking for money in exchange for "protection".
In other words; if the webmaster want their sites to operate
smoothly, a pay off must occur.
Criminals are able to get away with
murder as the perception of online gambling sites is being
degraded. The danger ,of course, is the possible spread of this
type of behavior to effect other areas of e-commerce. Government
sites may soon be infiltrated in the sane fashion.
With increased success comes increased
confidence and more sophisticated means of electronic
infiltration. To simply ignore this problem would be beyond
ignorant, it would also be extremely detrimental to the over all
integrity of the web.
Many casino companies are increasing
their electronic defense. Unfortunately, the growth of internet
security software is equal to the rate of criminal activity when
it comes to the web. No sooner does a new form of software
security appear on the market than the means by which to breech
it. This problem of constant cat and mouse has online casino
webmasters shaking in their boots.
The question is not" if" but rather,
"when" will an electronic extortionist manage to find his way in.
The inactivity of lawmakers in the matter may be due to the
current legislative debate concerning online casinos. However, if
the prohibition act is passed, the casinos will not exist anymore
but the extortionists will. This will leave another form of
internet commerce to be open for attack.
