Chicago Casino at The Center of Governor Debate

Chicago is continuing to do things they don't do on Broadway. Republican gubernatorial candidate, Judy Topinka, revealed plans to create a casino as the center piece of her four year financial plan.

Although legalized gambling has been a hot button issue among the cities voters, the proposed casino would be a far more viable alternative to raising taxes. Individuals who take a strong stance against the creation of new gambling dens in the city much prefer dealing with the environment created by a casino rather than having to pinch their purses and pay more taxes.

The issue of the raising taxes is at the helm of the gubernatorial debates in Illinois. Topinka intends to invalidate her competitions claim not to impose a tax increase on the state. Blagojevich, the governor candidate running on the democratic ticket, has promised that the tax situation would be a non-issue during his candidacy.

Topinka has explained to voters that these claims come with no meat. She offers a clear and palpable plan to reduce the need to possibly raise taxes in the state, while admitting that it may be a last resort.

The boost in tourism and the influx of avid gamblers to the casinos would do wonders for Chicago's economy. The proposed casino would no doubt bring business to hotels and restaurants in the area, allowing for a boom financial. It is Topinka's hope that this boom would be enough to increase profits so that a tax raise will not be necessary.

Her opposition will no doubt speak to the possible breach of city's integrity. Although Chicago is a burgeoning metropolitan area, the kind of environment that a casino promotes is not necessarily conducive to the image that has been associate with Chicago.

The city by and large is clean comparative to many of the other larger cities in the United States. Topinka's plan does cater to the residential voter who may perceive a casino in the Chicago metropolitan area as a problem. She proposes a freeze on property tax for two years.

These endeavors to save voters money continues to make doubts about the construction of a gambling facility just float away.

It is hard to say this early in the debates whether or not Topinka endeavors will breed success. You can be sure, however, that this topic will be at the center of further debates to come. The proposed casino could be perceived as a jackpot to voters come November.
