Casino Addiction Study at UNLV

The University of Las Vegas is Living up to its name sake. Researchers from the university have conducting a study that suggests about 7% of Clark county residents are suffering from a gambling problem. The study also showed that nearly half the residents of the county know at least one person who suffers from said problem.

Near by credit consolidators and debt management firms are reporting a 13% rate of their total costumers suffering from some form of gambling addiction. The problem has been consistent within the last 20 years. The growth of casinos in Vegas is in direct correlation with the wide spread gambling problems.

It is more than the lights on the casino floors however that are allowing for the dependency to continue. Gambling addicts have psychologically driven issues which are channeled through their casino play.

Researchers are conducting the study in order to get an adequate toll on the percentage of the public that suffers from addiction to casino games. For years Vegas Casino owners have been told that the gambling addiction was around 1%-2% for the individuals living in and around the area.

The statically information includes numbers only and don't take in to consideration human behavior. Migratory pattern, for example, would play a tremendous role in the amount of citizens suffering from addiction. If some one is addicted to gambling, they couldn't get their fix in Idaho. It is very plausible that those with the disorder moved to Las Vegas to satisfy their needs.

The university's goal is to increase awareness among casino owners so they may take measures to thwart addicts from entering on to the casino floor. The 6.6% estimate gathered by the study, is most likely lower than the actual rate. This information was concluded from individuals who admitted being gambling addicts. Many who have the problem aren't at a place where it is possible to acknowledge it.

The University of Las Vegas plans to continue there study in hopes to yield the most accurate results.
