Cardiff Casino Riles Native
Usually the opening of a new casino is
a gambling addicts dream, but for David Evans, self-admitted
gambling addict, it is the realization of his worst nightmare. The
77 yr old has trouble with accepting the construction of a super
casino in Cardiff
Having spent half his life in front of
slot machines Mr. Evans is no stranger to a slot-machine. He has
battled with addiction for much of his life and for this Brit it
is that struggle that causes his great distaste for the new
construction plans for Cardiff. Although he has his disorder
relatively under control, Evans constantly struggles against his
itching palm.
As a native of Canton, Evans is
saddened to see the current trend in increased casinos in the UK.
These establishments, in his opinion, have cost him his life. The
father of four has experienced a great amount of grief as a result
of his gambling binges. His marriage and familial ties with his
children have all but deteriorate completely. Evans is concerned
that others may face similar fates, and with the increased access
to casino gaming, the temptation presents itself on a larger
scale.
Evans in his hay day would visit
gambling facilities everyday, sometimes twice a day. These binges
would last up to twenty hours. Evans would forgo sleep because of
his urges to put it all on black at the roulette table.
Mr. Evans in a sense was following in
his fathers footsteps with his gambling addiction. His father was
the individual responsible for introducing him to the eventually
detrimental past time. At an early age Evans could be seen sitting
next to his father at a black jack table. It wouldn't be until he
reached the age of 40 when his obsession would over take his
reason.
In attempt to escape temptation Evans
moved to Australia's Gold Coast, which at the time was casino
free. Unfortunately, the development of Australia soon provided an
ample opportunity for casino construction.
Evans struggle with his disorder will
have to be fortified as the likelihood of a Cardiff casino is
high. He acknowledges that in order to free himself from the hold
of gambling addiction he'll have to face his demons rather than
running from them.
